Plum blossom – Ume symbolizes perseverance.

The plum blossom (Ume) is popular in Japan. The stylized flower has great similarities to the cherry blossom, with the petals usually being depicted as round. Plum blossom begins in winter. It symbolizes inner strength and perseverance.

I took another Sumi-e Japanese Ink Painting session with Karin Fröhlich at Atelierprojek on Sunday, 7th January 2024. This time it was learning the strokes to paint the plum blossom tree. A few days later, I found myself back home in Malaysia and everything went so quickly. Little did I know that inner strength and perseverance are the two things 2024 requires of me…
