Do you believe that some books come to you just at the right timing, just when you actually needed them. Even if you might own it for several years (left tsundoku – yeah that sounds like me!) or you might have known about them but never got around to getting a copy until… BOOM! It’s like you are meant to read them at that particular time, not earlier… not later……… Well, I do!
I got this book “Year of Yes – How to Dance it Out, Stand in the Sun and Be Your Own Person” written by my favourite screenplay writer Shonda Rhimes in 2018. The book was a gift that I truly cherish until now. It woke me up from a slumber that I somehow got into again and again in my past. One of the take-aways from the book was about the importance of “PLAY” – giving ourselves the permission to shift the focus of what is a priority from what’s good for you over to what makes you feel good. This inspired me to start filling my own cup and start doing more of what I enjoy doing; start taking better care of myself – body, mind and heart, so I could take better care of my loved ones.
And that was how 2019 became MY Year of YES! It was a year of YES to so much more joy in so many forms, Ma shaa Allah. To my friend D, if you are reading this – Jazak Allahu Khayran for being so thoughtful in gifting me this book just because you knew I am a huge fan of Shondaland and Grey’s Anatomy. I love it!
For this year in 2022, I will say YES when… my kids invite me to play.
What would your YES be?
“…start filling my own cup and start doing more of what I enjoy doing; start taking better care of myself – body, mind and heart so I could take better care of my loved ones…”
